DATA DRIVEN WORK

Client | City Rotterdam
Production | Deloitte Belgium
Project type | Educational design
Project Role | Art direction, character design, animation

WHAT

The city of Rotterdam is focusing more and more on data-driven work and they want to communicate this to their employees. It draws attention to data's advantages so that workers won't have to worry about how much data will affect their jobs or that they'll be replaced.

HOW

We transformed this concept into an interactive e-learning course that could be followed by their employees. Different characters take the viewer along the story, taking into account the multicultural mix and different positions in their team.

Main character

Sammy, the main character takes the viewer along the story. On her way she meets several employees of the city of Rotterdam. We developed an explainer video and interactive exercises that support the content. The course has a strong human-centered focus and uses an educational approach to clearly explain the new improvements.

Character Development

People with different backgrounds and cultures live in Rotterdam. As a result, the community becomes progressive and open-minded, and this is represented in the multicultural mix of the character design. I designed a variety of different characters, all riggable so they could be used for animation.

Interactivity

The course was created in Storyline, a platform that enables the use of interactive visuals to enhance the course's material. We produced explainer videos, exercised with clickable items and roadmaps, animated content, and drag-and-drop exercises. This interaction resulted in greater engagement.

City elements

The exercises and animations had to capture the energy of Rotterdam, which is known for its skyline and outstanding architecture. I transformed these landmarks' essence into an iconic style, and it was implemented subtly to maintain the attention on the characters and other design components.
